The lulur ritual at the spa was extraordinary, and the flower bath afterwards overlooking the rice fields felt like a dream. Our suite's pool faced Merapi, and we had breakfast floating in it every morning.
We came for Borobudur and stayed for the mornings. Watching the mist lift off the plain from our terrace, with a pot of Javanese coffee, is the thing I think about most since coming home. The sunrise walk was worth the four o'clock alarm.
Quiet, beautifully built and run with real care. The rijsttafel at the Pendopo was the best meal of our two weeks in Indonesia, and the staff remembered how we took our coffee from the first day.
We held our wedding on the Menoreh Lawn for 140 guests. The team organised a traditional panggih ceremony, gamelan and a royal rijsttafel, and every single detail was handled. Our families still talk about it.
The batik day in Yogyakarta was a highlight. Our guide was patient and funny, and coming back up the hill to the pool and a cocktail on the terrace at sunset was perfect.
